The We R Memory Keepers Freestyle Foil Quill Pens are both easy to use and, versatile. I’ve been having a blast with them! Find out what I discovered about this fun and innovative new tool.
This is not a sponsored post. I purchased everything with my own money.
Fine detail & Control-3 Pen sizes. This is hard to do with traditional methods that require adhesives, delicate metallic sheets & powders.
No mess-I like that you can skip the adhesive step. This was always a challenge when I was leafing my fine art prints…I ruined so many prints this way.
Can be used on a variety of surfaces-Paper, leather and so much more! The sky is the limit.
Super reflective-Comparable to commercial embossing.
Lots of colors to choose from

Go ahead and get the multi set. Its more economical to buy all three instead of one at a time, you’ll like having the choice. This particular set comes with three foils and some tape. (This is the Freestyle version, not the ones that can be used in your die cutting machine).
You Need The Mat!
This Foil Quill Heat Resistant Mat is a must!! It will keep ALL of your items in place! The foil is light & slippy, so being able to anchor it down really helps.
Your starter kit does come with three basic colors but, you will want more. When I started, I become a “foiling fool” and quickly ran out. Also, I was intrigued by all these wonderful bright colors. The Foils come in large rolls and in these smaller multi packs.
Let’s Get Started-Working With Stencils
The Freestyle Foil Quill Pens work well with both paper & plastic stencils. I used the stencils as an outline and, then I fill them in with my own freehand flourishes. I purchase my stencils from everywhere…online & at my local craft store-see the wall stencil area.
You make your own stencils with paper! I made these on my Cricut Machine!
Let’s Get Started
This is my process
Before we get started, let’s talk about those portable chargers that I see some of you using. Portable chargers can be a fire hazard. Only use the ones intended to power the Foil Quill pens. I don’t have this We R Memory Keepers charger so I use a self regulating power strip instead.
With your reusable tape, tack down your paper. You won’t need ta bunch of tape, just a couple of pieces.
Cut out a piece of foil paper, leaving a bit of the foil paper hanging over the sides. This protects the paper from scuff marks that the magnets can create.
How did I get those little magnets? I cut up one of my magnet strips.
Trace & fill in with your own flourishes. This is where having three sizes of tips will give you the best results. I used the biggest one for the outline, the small one for those tiny corners & the medium one for everything else.
Next, I remove the stencil and I fill in the rest with my imagination.
The Big Reveal!! This is the funnest part! Trust me, you’ll get addicted.
Keep The scrap pieces! I’m sure you’ll find little projects for them later.
Embossing Fine Art Prints
This is one of the main reasons I bought this tool. I’m a painter too, and I love to incorporate gold leaf into my prints. Unfortunately, I would have issues with the messy adhesives ruining my prints. This is no longer a problem the We R Memory Keepers Foil Quill.
