Happy Kawaii Supplies (Etsy Shop) Unboxing & Review

This review is for the Etsy Shop, HappyKawaiiSupplies. This was an unsolicited review. I paid for my order with my own money. I will not receive a commission from any purchases that you may make from Etsy. or from HappyKawaiiSupplies.

For the last few months I have been inspired by the zero calorie clay cupcake. I have made so many cupcakes, large and small. In addition, I have experimented with different decorating techniques and embellishments. In the end, I decided that the cupcake sprinkles that I had made weren’t that great. Also, I found that the process of making the sprinkles was so tedious that it took some of the fun out of the creative process. Hence, I started looking for alternatives. This is when I discovered the Etsy Shop, HappyKawaiiSupllies. They have a huge selection of sprinkles, polymer special shapes, molds and a ton of pretty little cabochons.

Overall Review Score of 5 Stars

(This score is my review score, NOT the review score of any particular retailer or individual)

Selection-5 Stars

They have so much to choose from! It took me about half an hour to fill my cart. This shop constantly refreshes their inventory with new things.

Shipping-5 Stars

Lightning fast shipping. My order arrived in just a few days. This is unusual for an Etsy Shop. This tells me that the shop owner is checking and processing orders on a daily basis.

Shop Communication-5 Stars

While I filling my cart one of my items was purchased. In despair, I wrote the shop owner and she responded within a few minutes and had relisted the item!

Quality-5 stars

Everything I received was beautiful. Also, the sprinkles and embeds baked beautifully in the oven. There were no problems with melting or discoloration.

Price-5 Stars

The prices are reasonable

3-Part Cupcake Mold-Review

The mold is in 3 pieces. The rounded top of the cupcake mold can be used to make donuts too! Initially when I opened the package I thought she had given me an additional mold but its part of the cupcake mold set.

The cupcake mold yields 1.25″ tall Charm; the charm might be too large for earrings but, it’s a perfect size for a necklace charm.

The following are tips & Tricks for using this particular mold.

Tip-Preparation Of The Clay & Releasing The Shape From The Mold

The mold works well with the polymer clay. This summer I will experiment with glittered resin, but its way to cold to do that now. Anyway, I found that rolling the clay into a ball and placing it into the cupcake base works really well. The top “muffin top” is a little more tricky…I found that if you rolled a small cylinder of clay (just the right amount) and press it into the mold you will be able to get a consistent impression. The next step is to release the two parts of the cupcake (please see photos above). I place the top part of the mold onto the bottom part of the mold and gently pressed them together. This creates a seal, which will help you keep the shape of the top part. Next I remove the top part of the mold (carefully) then, the bottom half of the mold. This might take you a few tries but, you will get the hang of it!

Tip-Make The Cupcake Look More Realistic

To make the cupcake look more realistic, I use a toothbrush to add texture and to remove the seams that the mold creates.

Tip-Getting A Good Impression From Your Cupcake Topper

Also, the color you use for the frosting should be the same color that you want the frosting to be. This will look better and, you won’t have the tedious task of painting around the sprinkles.

Tip-The Cake/Yellow Glow In The Dark Polymer Clay

This clay adds a luminous quality, even when painted.

Tip-Add A Little Jingle To Your Charm

I love to add hidden bells to things. Often, I will do this to my cotton batting ornaments. Want to be extra fancy? Just before you add the frosting, place a bell in the small empty space that the mold leaves. No worries, it will bake just fine. If you add a pendent hook, you might want to skip this step.

Tip-Firmly Attach The Frosting

Tip-Yellow Ochre Is The Perfect Cake Color

AFTER YOU HAVE BAKED YOUR CLAY!!! I put a light coat of Yellow Ochre (Acrylic) over the cake part of the cupcake. Then I do two coats of white paint for the cupcake liner. After the paint is completely dried then I seal everything ( this keeps the sprinkles in place too…) with one of the two Sculpey Brand Glazes. Usually, I use the satin glaze for the cake and frosting, and then I use the glass glaze for the fruit or candy.

Sprinkles & Other Embellishments-Review Feature

My search for the perfect sprinkle is what first brought me to this shop. Everything that I ordered worked beautifully! No discoloration, color bleeding or structural distortion occurred when I baked them.

The tool, The Jewel Picker by Marvy came in very handy.
